The National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) reported that Nestlé Argentina S.A. has initiated a voluntary and preventive recall of various batches of infant formulas.
This decision was made due to the possible presence of the Cereulide toxin, produced by the microorganism Bacillus cereus, in one of the raw materials used. As these products are intended for infants, the risk of dehydration and complications is greater, which motivates the total preventive recall of the suspect batches.
The microorganism can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever.

What is the Cereulide toxin and what risks does it represent?
Cereulide is a toxin produced by the Bacillus cereus bacterium, which is resistant to heat and adverse environmental conditions.
Its ingestion can cause two different syndromes: the emetic (vomiting and nausea shortly after consumption) and the diarrheal (abdominal pain and fever a few hours later).
